2011 – How dust mite proteins can become mite allergens

Embedded in house dust mite droppings are multiple proteins that can become allergens. Also in the droppings are disease-associated molecules that have the properties required to make the transformation from mite protein to mite allergen. The route of the transformation is discussed in an important clinical review.
